What are Sync Settings?
Sync settings determine if and how your music can be licensed. You need to set these for every right you own on a song, as licensing requires approval from all controlling parties.
Why you must set Sync Settings for the rights you control
To license a song on MAIA Universe, we require clear permission from all rights holders for both the Master Recording and the underlying Composition (Work). You only need to set the sync settings for the rights you personally manage.
Here is what that means for you:
You control only one right (e.g., only the Label side or only the Publisher side): You set your sync settings once for that specific right on the song.
You control both sides (Master Recording and Composition): Since licensing requires approval from both components, you must switch profiles (Label and Publisher) to set the sync settings for both sides of the song.
You are Copyright Control for Songwriters: You must also select and set the sync settings for every songwriter you represent.
If you control several different rights or "sides" on a song, you need to set the sync settings for each one individually to ensure the song is fully available for licensing.
How to set Sync Settings for all your rights
If you control multiple types of rights (or "sides") for a song, you need to set the sync settings for each one individually.
1. Understand Your Profiles
If you control only one side (e.g., only the Master Recording): You will typically have one profile (e.g., a Label Profile) and only need to set the sync settings once per song under that profile.
If you control both sides (Master and Work): You will need to switch between your Label Profile and your Publisher Profile to set the settings for each side of the song.
If you are Copyright Control for a Songwriter: You must switch to that specific Songwriter Profile to set their individual sync settings.
2. Switch Profiles to Manage Different Rights
Use the Profile Switch feature to easily change between the different rights you manage:
Navigate to Songs
Access the Profile Switch
Select the Profile: Choose the profile that corresponds to the rights you need to set (e.g., your Label Profile, your Publisher Profile, or a specific Songwriter's Profile).
Set the Sync Settings: Navigate to the song and update the sync settings for the rights controlled by that profile.
Repeat: Switch to the next profile you manage for that song and repeat the process until all your controlled sides have their settings confirmed.
By setting the sync settings for every profile you control, you ensure that your song is fully cleared and ready for licensing.
We are actively working on improvements to streamline the sync settings workflow for rights holders who control several different "sides" (Master Recording, Composition, or multiple writers) on a single song.
Our goal is to make setting and managing these permissions faster and easier for you.
